Description of the area
The 50 ha nature reserve includes the Bágyi mountain and the surrounding hills. As there is no water spring on these hills, the soil is dry and therefore the vegetation is prairie-like. This is one of the most western prairies in Transylvania.
There are several rare and protected plants in this area: Ruby Glow (Daphne cneorum), Purple Mullein (Verbascum phoeniceum), the Jurinea mollis, the Orchis coriophora orchid, Three-toothed orchid (Orchis tridentata), Fragrant Orchid (Gymnadenia conopsea), Royal Helleborine (Epipactis atrorubens), Mountain Pasque Flower (Pulsatilla montana), Small Yellow Onion (Allium flavum), Nodding Sage (Salvia nutans), Viper's Bugloss (Echium russicum), Yellow Flax (Linum flavum), Siberian Bellflower (Campanula sibirica), Aster amellus, Stemless carline thistle (Carlina acaulis), Grape hyacinths (Muscari comosum), Velvetleaf (Abutilon theophrasti), Burning Bush (Dictamnus albus), Large Self-heal (Prunella grandiflora).

Typical scrubs of the area is the Common Juniper (Juniperus communis) which tolerates drought well. Black Locust (Robinia pseudoacacia) trees can be found only at the border line of the area.
Most of the fauna of the area is typical for the prairies and consists of invertebrate that tolerate drought. In this area there is a family of badger (Meles meles) and a bird that builds nests on the ground (Tawny Pipit , Anthus campestris). It is important to mention that there is a kind of butterfly (the Hermit, Chazara briseis), whose usual habitat is South Europe and Asia Minor. Occasionally ravens and birds of prey come for hunting.
Close to the Bágyi mountain there is the Bird Protection Area Natura 2000, but this area does not make part of it. As this area has outstanding nature values, it would be important to assign a proper nature protection status to it.
